ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how different measurements related to the diaphragm, the muscle that helps us breathe, can help predict whether patients can safely stop using a ventilator after being on it for a while. Researchers will use ultrasound to look at the diaphragm's thickness and how well it moves during breathing. They will also monitor lung function through various breathing tests. By understanding these measurements, the goal is to improve the process of determining when patients can be weaned off ventilators, especially within the first two days after extubation (removal from the ventilator).
To be eligible for this study, participants should be between the ages of 65 to 74 and meet certain health criteria, including stable respiratory and cardiovascular conditions. This means they should have good oxygen levels, be able to start breathing on their own, and have a clear level of consciousness. Patients who are severely obese, pregnant, or younger than 18 are not eligible. Those who join the trial can expect to undergo breathing tests and ultrasound exams to gather important information about their lung and diaphragm function. This research is crucial for improving care for patients who have trouble breathing and need assistance from machines.
