Non Invasive Ventilation Esophageal Pressure Transpulmonary Pressure

ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how certain measurements taken from inside the body, specifically the pressure in the esophagus, relate to the effectiveness of non-invasive breathing support for patients experiencing acute hypoxic respiratory failure. This condition means that patients have trouble getting enough oxygen into their blood, which could be due to various reasons, including infections like COVID-19. The aim is to see if understanding these pressures can help predict when non-invasive support might not be working as well as it should.

To participate in this study, individuals must be over 18 years old and have acute hypoxic respiratory failure, meaning their oxygen levels are critically low. However, people with certain conditions like severe lung swelling, chest deformities, or those who need immediate mechanical ventilation cannot take part. If eligible, participants will undergo tests that measure their respiratory function and how well non-invasive support is helping them. This research is important as it could lead to better treatment strategies for patients with serious breathing issues.
