ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying the use of lumbar braces for people experiencing low back pain who visit the emergency department. Low back pain is a common issue and can lead to a significant reliance on pain medications, which may have side effects and can be overused. The goal of this study is to see if wearing a lumbar brace for four weeks can help reduce pain, improve movement, and lower the need for painkillers. Previous studies suggest that lumbar braces can be effective in managing low back pain.

To participate in this study, you must be between 18 and 65 years old, able to walk, and understand English. You should also be living in Edmonton and seeking treatment at an emergency department. However, if your back pain is caused by serious health issues like cancer, infections, or previous surgeries, you won't be eligible for this trial. Participants will receive a lumbar brace and guidance on how to use it, and the researchers will monitor your progress over the study period. This research could help improve pain management strategies in emergency departments and ultimately enhance patient care.
