ClinConnect Summary
The P.I.T.S.A. Study is researching a new way to help doctors perform shoulder surgery more accurately for patients suffering from shoulder arthritis. This study focuses on using a personalized guide, created from detailed 3D CT scans, to ensure the glenoid component (a part of the shoulder joint) is placed correctly during surgery. Proper placement is important because mistakes can lead to complications like pain, instability, or the need for more surgery later on. The goal is to see if this personalized guide can improve the surgery's success while also potentially reducing operating time and complications.
To participate in this study, you must be between 65 and 74 years old and have shoulder osteoarthritis or avascular necrosis (a condition where bone tissue dies due to a lack of blood supply). However, you won’t be eligible if you've had previous shoulder surgery, have inflammatory arthritis, or have had infections in your shoulder. If you join the study, you'll be monitored for two years after the surgery to evaluate how well the personalized guide works. This trial is currently recruiting participants, and it's a promising opportunity to help improve shoulder surgery outcomes for many patients.
