ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is focused on improving the safety and effectiveness of anesthesia for older adults who need surgery. The research team wants to create a special database that will help them understand how different factors—like age, health background, and brain activity—affect older patients during and after surgery. They will collect information from participants before, during, and up to a year after their surgery to help predict and prevent issues related to memory and thinking that can occur after anesthesia.
To be eligible for this study, participants need to be at least 65 years old and scheduled for a non-cardiac surgery that requires general anesthesia for two hours or more. Unfortunately, individuals with conditions like Alzheimer's, dementia, Parkinson's disease, or those taking specific medications for depression cannot participate. If chosen, participants can expect to share their health information, provide blood samples, and undergo cognitive tests to help researchers build a better understanding of how to provide safer anesthesia for older adults.
