ClinConnect Summary
This study is about translating and validating the Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA) into Italian. The FMA is a widely used test to measure how well a person can move and feel after a stroke. The researchers want to make sure the Italian version is easy to understand and works well in Italian clinics, so it can reliably measure motor function in post-stroke patients. The project focuses on both the arm (upper limb) and leg (lower limb) parts of the test, and higher scores mean better function.
About who can join: adults aged 18 to 90 who recently had a stroke and are in intensive rehabilitation in Florence, Italy, are eligible. The stroke must have occurred within 15 days of admission. Participants or their proxy must give informed consent. Exclusions include significant vision or hearing problems, limb amputation, cerebellar stroke, a previous stroke, or notable cognitive decline (MMSE below 21). The study plans to enroll up to 10 participants and will involve a short, one-day assessment using the Italian version of the FMA by three physiotherapists to test clarity and cultural fit. This is an observational translation project, not a test of a new treatment, funded by Fondazione Don Carlo Gnocchi Onlus with collaboration from Göteborg University, and it does not involve sharing individual participant data.
