ClinConnect Summary
The CogNID trial is studying how different types of dementia, like Alzheimer's Disease, Vascular Cognitive Impairment, and Fronto-temporal Dementia, affect thinking skills and brain images. Researchers want to see if people with these conditions perform differently on tests that measure cognitive abilities and if they have distinct patterns in brain scans using a special high-powered MRI machine. This study aims to better understand these conditions and how they can be identified.
To take part in the trial, participants need to be aged 65 and older and should be able to provide informed consent, meaning they can understand and agree to join the study. They should have evidence from tests or scans that suggest they have one of the types of dementia being studied. However, people who have certain difficulties understanding, do not speak English well, or cannot undergo an MRI scan due to medical reasons cannot participate. If eligible, participants will undergo assessments that include thinking tests and brain imaging, which will help researchers learn more about dementia and how to improve care for those affected.
