ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is exploring how animal-assisted therapy (AAT) can help patients who are in a minimally conscious state. The goal is to see if spending time with therapy animals can improve their level of awareness and help them achieve specific personal goals. The study will involve 30 patients, and they will be divided into two groups. Each patient will participate in AAT sessions for three weeks, followed by a control period with standard care, or vice versa.
To be eligible for the trial, participants must be at least 18 years old and currently receiving care at REHAB Basel while being in a minimally conscious state. Their legal representatives must also provide consent for them to join. Throughout the study, participants will have their progress measured at different points to see how they respond to the therapy. This research aims to better understand the potential benefits of interacting with animals for patients in this condition, and it may provide new insights into their care.
