ClinConnect Summary
The Cow Milk Fat Obesity Prevention Trial (CoMFORT) is studying how different types of cow's milk might affect childhood obesity in children aged 2 to 4 years. Researchers want to find out whether whole milk (which has more fat) or reduced fat milk (1% fat) helps children maintain a healthy weight and supports their overall growth and development. Participating families will be assigned to either drink whole milk or reduced fat milk for two years, and the study will look at various health measures, including body weight, cognitive development, and overall nutrition.
To be eligible for this trial, children must be healthy, between 1.5 and 2.99 years old, and part of a specific pediatric group. However, children with certain health conditions, severe developmental delays, or those who cannot consume cow's milk for reasons like allergies or lactose intolerance cannot participate. Families who join the study can expect to provide some information about their child's health and diet throughout the trial. This research aims to help create better nutrition guidelines for young children to prevent obesity in a simple and effective way.
