ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how different diets can affect the gut microbiome, which is the community of bacteria in our intestines, and how this might be linked to obesity. The researchers want to see if a specific diet called the DASH diet, which is focused on reducing salt and increasing fruits and vegetables, is more effective than a standard American diet when both are calorie-restricted. The study will involve 28 healthy women, aged 19 to 65, who identify as non-Hispanic black or white and have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, indicating obesity. Participants will need to visit the research center daily for four weeks and will provide stool samples at different times to help the scientists analyze any changes in their gut bacteria.
To join the study, women must be generally healthy and not have any serious digestive issues, recent use of antibiotics or probiotics, or major medical conditions like diabetes or cancer. This research aims to better understand how race, diet, and gut health interact, which could lead to new ways to prevent and treat obesity and related health problems. If you're interested or think you might qualify, this could be an important opportunity to contribute to our understanding of nutrition and health!
