ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how outpatient preoperative parenteral nutrition (PN) can help patients who are malnourished before they have major surgery. Malnutrition is common among surgical patients and can lead to complications after surgery, but PN provides essential nutrients through an intravenous line, similar to what you would get from food. Traditionally, patients needed to stay in the hospital to receive this nutrition, which can be costly and increase the risk of hospital-related infections. This study aims to see if giving PN to patients at home before their surgery is a safe and effective alternative.
To participate in this trial, you need to be at least 18 years old and screened as malnourished. This means your healthcare provider will assess your nutritional status using specific tools. However, if you are pregnant, undergoing minor surgery, or have certain severe health conditions, you may not be eligible. If you join the study, you can expect to receive PN at home, which could help improve your health and surgical outcomes without the need for a hospital stay. The researchers hope that this approach will make it easier for malnourished patients to prepare for surgery safely and effectively.
