ClinConnect Summary
The CARDEC-PEL trial is studying how to best assess the risk of dental cavities (caries) in children. Researchers want to find out if a detailed and personalized risk assessment leads to better dental health outcomes compared to a simpler assessment method. The study will involve children aged 7 to 11 who are visiting the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic at the Federal University of Pelotas for dental treatment. About 250 children will be included in this study, and they will be randomly divided into two groups: one group will receive treatment based on a thorough risk assessment, while the other will be treated based on their past dental issues.
Parents of the participating children will fill out questionnaires about their child's diet and health, and the children will undergo clinical examinations to check for cavities. The study will last for two years, with check-ins at the start, after one year, and at the end. This research is important because it aims to improve how we manage children's dental health and may help prevent cavities more effectively. If your child is between 7 and 11 years old and in need of dental care, they might be eligible to participate in this study.
