ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how helpful exercise educational materials can be for patients recovering from chest surgery, specifically those who have had a thoracotomy (an operation to open the chest). The researchers want to see if providing patients with a detailed exercise guide, including pictures, can improve their participation in important chest physiotherapy exercises. These exercises help with breathing, coughing, and moving around, which are crucial for recovery in the intensive care unit.
To be eligible for this study, participants need to be between 18 and 70 years old, have had a thoracotomy, and be stable and conscious. However, those who have severe pain, neurological issues, heart or muscle problems that make exercising difficult, or a fever over 38 degrees will not be able to participate. If enrolled, participants will be divided into two groups: one will receive the exercise guide, while the other will not. After a session in the intensive care unit, the patients will be checked on to see if they are doing their exercises. This study aims to understand the role of educational support in recovery, which could benefit many patients in the future.
