ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying a new tool called the Music therapy Sensory Instrument for Cognition, Consciousness and Awareness (MuSICCA) to help assess children with Prolonged Disorders of Consciousness (PDOC), which can include conditions like the Vegetative State and Minimally Conscious State. The goal is to see how accurately and reliably this tool can help doctors understand a child's level of awareness and guide their care. Currently, there are no well-tested tools for evaluating children in these conditions, and having a reliable method is crucial for making informed decisions about their treatment and support.

To participate in the study, children aged 2 to 18 who are suspected of having a disorder of consciousness can be included, but they must be assessed by a medical team first. Participants will take part in up to seven assessment sessions over three years, where they will respond to music and other sensory stimuli. The sessions will be carefully recorded, and their responses will be used to help doctors better diagnose and provide care for these children. It's important to note that children with certain conditions, like severe hearing or vision problems, or specific seizure disorders, will not be eligible for this trial.
