ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a program called the Pregnant Moms' Empowerment Program (PMEP) to see how it can help women who have experienced intimate partner violence (IPV) during pregnancy. The trial aims to find out if the PMEP can improve the mental health of mothers, reduce the chances of them experiencing violence again, enhance their parenting skills, and support their infant's development. The study will involve 230 pregnant women who are between 10 to 30 weeks along in their pregnancy, speak English, are at least 16 years old, and have faced IPV in the past year.
Participants will be divided into two groups: one will receive the PMEP, which includes sessions on community support, coping strategies, and parenting, while the other group will engage in general discussions. Over about 1.5 years, participants will attend several visits and sessions, during which they’ll be interviewed and assessed. They will also have the opportunity to fill out daily surveys and receive compensation for their time. This research is taking place at the University of Notre Dame and the University of Memphis, and aims to support women in improving their well-being and parenting during and after pregnancy.
