ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating two different methods of performing a prostate biopsy, which is a procedure used to check for prostate cancer. The two methods being compared are transrectal biopsy (where the needle is inserted through the rectal wall) and transperineal biopsy (where the needle goes through the skin of the perineum, the area between the scrotum and anus). The goal of the study is to find out if one method is better at detecting cancer and has fewer complications than the other.
Men who need a prostate biopsy because their doctors suspect cancer may be eligible to participate in the trial. To qualify, they should be scheduled for a biopsy, regardless of whether they have had an MRI. However, men who have had previous rectal surgery, have skin issues in the perineal area, or need sedation for the procedure cannot take part. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two biopsy methods and will contribute to important research that could help improve how prostate biopsies are done in the future.
