High Ankle Sprain Syndesmotic Instability Computed Tomography Stress Maneuver

ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial, called CTMETS, is studying how to better diagnose a specific type of ankle injury known as syndesmotic instability, which can happen after an ankle sprain. Researchers want to compare the current method of taking a CT scan of the ankle when it is at rest (neutral position) with two new methods that involve stressing the ankle in different positions. The goal is to find out if these new techniques can provide a more accurate diagnosis. Additionally, participants will fill out a questionnaire to help assess any difficulties they may have with foot and ankle activities after their injury.

To be eligible for this study, you must be an adult over 18 years old who has experienced a sprained ankle within the last three weeks, and you should have a positive evaluation suggesting a potential syndesmotic injury. However, people with certain conditions, like previous ankle surgeries or other specific ankle problems, will not be able to participate. If you decide to join the study, you can expect to undergo different types of CT scans and contribute to understanding how to improve diagnoses for ankle injuries in the future.
