ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating whether giving antibiotics before a specific procedure called gastric variceal obliteration (GVO) helps prevent infections in patients with chronic liver disease who have swollen veins in their stomach (gastric varices). This trial is important because these patients are at risk for serious infections like sepsis. Researchers will randomly assign participants to either receive antibiotics or not, to see if the antibiotics make a difference in their health outcomes.
To participate in this study, individuals need to be between 20 and 85 years old and have chronic liver disease, such as liver cirrhosis or liver cancer. They should also have had a recent endoscopy treatment for their gastric varices. However, those with severe illnesses affecting major organs, recent antibiotic use, or suspected infections will not be eligible. Participants can expect regular check-ups and monitoring throughout the trial, and their health will be closely observed to determine the effectiveness of the antibiotic treatment.
