ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the effectiveness of combining two medications, Norfloxacin and Itopride, compared to using Norfloxacin alone for preventing a serious infection called Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis (SBP) in patients with liver disease (cirrhosis) and fluid buildup in the abdomen (ascites). The goal is to see if adding Itopride can help improve protection against this infection in patients who have already experienced it before.
To be part of this study, participants need to be adults with cirrhosis who have had at least one previous episode of SBP. Unfortunately, people with allergies to the medications being tested, recent antibiotic use, certain types of cancer, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding cannot participate. Those who join the trial can expect regular check-ins with the research team to monitor their health and response to the medications. This trial is currently looking for volunteers, and all genders are welcome to participate.
