ClinConnect Summary
The Movement and Behaviours Measurement Study is looking into how older adults, specifically those aged 65 and over, engage in different levels of physical activity. The main goal is to create guidelines for measuring activity levels using devices called accelerometers, which track movement. This study will help us understand how much activity is considered sedentary, light, or moderate-to-vigorous for older adults, based on their individual health and functional abilities.
To participate, you should be 65 years or older, live independently, and have a basic physical function score above a certain level. Unfortunately, if you have recently started an exercise program or have certain health conditions affecting your ability to move, you may not qualify. If you join the study, you'll be asked to perform various physical activities while wearing an accelerometer and a gas analyzer, which helps measure how your body uses energy. This information will contribute to important guidelines that could help improve physical activity recommendations for older adults in the future.
