ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is focused on understanding inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), such as Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease, in patients at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare, Zimbabwe. The researchers aim to create a registry, which is a collection of information about patients with IBD, to track their health over time. They will gather details about the patients' disease characteristics, how it progresses, and how it is treated. Additionally, they will collect stool samples and DNA to study potential genetic factors. The study will also include the recruitment of a relative and a neighbor of each patient to investigate possible risk factors for developing IBD in this community.
To be eligible for the study, participants must be adults aged 18 or older who have been diagnosed with IBD for at least three months. The control group will consist of a sibling or cousin and a neighbor who do not have IBD or unexplained digestive problems. Participants can expect to provide information about their health and lifestyle and may also provide samples for research. This study is currently recruiting participants and aims to improve our understanding of IBD in the Sub-Saharan African population, which could lead to better care and prevention strategies in the future.
