ClinConnect Summary
This is an observational study looking at sleep bruxism—teeth grinding or clenching during sleep—and how it relates to the way people sleep, plus factors like insomnia, stress, anxiety, mood, pain, and headaches. Researchers will compare people who have sleep bruxism to healthy volunteers, using an in-lab sleep test called polysomnography (which records brain activity, breathing, heart rate, and jaw muscle activity) and a long list of questionnaires about sleep, stress, trauma, coping, mood, and pain. They will also collect a blood sample to look at genetic factors. Participants won’t receive treatment as part of the study; the goal is to understand patterns and possible causes.
Who can join: adults aged 18–70 who have diagnosed sleep bruxism, plus a group of healthy volunteers for comparison. Key exclusions include being outside that age range, having a terminal illness or severe mental disorders, use of medicines that could affect sleep, alcoholism or drug addiction. Expect to spend time in a sleep lab for the test, complete several questionnaires, and give a blood sample. The study is being run at Wroclaw Medical University in Poland and is currently enrolling by invitation; it plans to recruit about 50 people, with results not yet available and primary study completion expected around late 2025.
