ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how effective it is to provide important health services to women in two hair salons in Umlazi township, Durban. The services being offered include daily PrEP (a medication that helps prevent HIV), family planning options (like contraceptives), and screenings for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Women who visit these salons can choose which services they want to use, while another salon will not offer any health services at all. The study aims to recruit 200 women who will use the health services and another 200 women from the control salon who won’t receive any services.
To be eligible, participants must be women aged 18 and older who can speak English or Zulu and are willing to give their consent to join the study. Women who show signs of an acute HIV infection or are already pregnant cannot participate. Those who join will receive reminders for follow-up visits and medication refills through texts, WhatsApp groups, and even have a chance to win free salon services as an incentive to keep them engaged. This trial is currently recruiting participants, and it aims to improve access to crucial health services in the community.
