ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how different methods of feeding can affect the gastrointestinal (GI) function in critically ill patients with sepsis. Sepsis is a serious condition that can harm the intestines, and researchers believe that the way patients are fed can make a difference in their recovery. The trial will compare three feeding methods: feeding continuously over 24 hours, feeding continuously over 16 hours, and feeding in intervals. The goal is to see which method helps improve intestinal health and overall recovery in these patients.
To participate in this study, patients must be in the critical care unit with a specific level of illness severity, indicated by a score called the APACHE-II score, which must be greater than 15. They also need to give their consent to join the study. However, patients who are fasting due to certain medical conditions, have allergies to the feeding products, or do not wish to participate will not be eligible. If patients join the trial, they can expect to receive one of the feeding methods while being closely monitored for their GI function and overall health. This research could help improve care for critically ill patients in the future.
