ClinConnect Summary
**Summary of the Clinical Trial: Pragmatic Abilities in Children With Acquired Brain Injury**
This clinical trial is investigating how children with acquired brain injuries (ABI) communicate in everyday situations. Children with ABI, including those who have had traumatic brain injuries or brain tumors, often face challenges in pragmatic communication, which means understanding and using language appropriately in social contexts. Unfortunately, current tests may not fully capture these communication difficulties because they tend to focus only on understanding language rather than how children use it in real-life conversations. To address this gap, researchers have developed a new assessment tool called "ABaCo," which is designed to evaluate all aspects of pragmatic communication. This study aims to see if the ABaCo test can effectively identify communication challenges in children aged 6 to 11 who have experienced ABI.
To participate in this trial, children must be Italian, between 6 and 11 years old, and at least six months post-injury. They should not have other communication disorders like aphasia (difficulty speaking) or sensory issues. Families who join the study can expect their child to take the ABaCo test, which involves watching short videos and responding to various communication scenarios. This research is essential because it could lead to better assessments and treatments for children facing communication challenges after brain injuries, ultimately helping them improve their social interactions and quality of life.
