ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is focused on understanding a condition called myocardial injury that can happen after surgeries that are not related to the heart, particularly in patients over 50 years old who are undergoing orthopedic surgeries like hip, knee, or spine operations. The researchers want to find out how common this injury is and what factors during the surgery might contribute to it. They are also developing a new tool to help identify patients who may be at higher risk for complications after their surgery.
To participate in this study, individuals need to be over 50 years old and scheduled for an orthopedic surgery. They must also be able to provide written consent to join the trial. Participants will have their heart health monitored, including measuring a protein called troponin, which can indicate heart injury. By taking part in this study, patients can help researchers improve the care for future surgery patients and potentially reduce the risks associated with these types of surgeries.
