ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is looking at how certain immune cells in the blood, called activated monocytes, behave in patients who are having complex heart surgeries. The researchers want to understand how these cells change before, during, and after the surgery, especially in relation to other substances in the blood like GABA (a calming chemical) and inflammatory cytokines (which can signal the body to respond to injury). They will also explore how these immune responses might be linked to the risk of blood clots during surgery.

To participate in this study, patients of all ages who are scheduled for complex heart surgeries that involve a heart-lung machine (called cardiopulmonary bypass) may be eligible. However, people who are having emergency procedures, those in very serious health conditions, or individuals with specific religious beliefs that prevent them from receiving certain medical treatments will not be included. Participants will have their blood tested at different times to measure the levels of these immune cells and other substances, helping researchers learn more about the body’s response to surgery.
