ClinConnect Summary
The Genomic Medicine at VA Study is looking at how well a special genetic test, called a polygenic risk score, can predict the likelihood of developing certain diseases. This study focuses on patients who may be at higher genetic risk for conditions like coronary artery disease, atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat), type 2 diabetes, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, and prostate cancer. Over a period of 24 months, researchers will track how quickly these diseases are diagnosed in participants.
To be eligible for this study, you should be between 50 and 70 years old and not have been diagnosed with any of the six diseases being studied. The study is currently recruiting participants of all genders who meet these criteria. If you join, you can expect to undergo testing and regular check-ins over the two years to monitor your health. This research aims to provide more personalized medicine based on your genetic risk, which could help in early detection and prevention of these serious diseases.
