ClinConnect Summary
The Pediatric Oncology Recovery Trial After Surgery (PORTS) is a research study designed to help improve the recovery process for children who have undergone surgery for pelvic cancer. The study is taking place at five specialized children's hospitals and focuses on using a new care plan called Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS). This plan aims to make recovery easier and faster for young patients by looking at how well the care plan is followed and how it impacts patients' health and well-being after surgery.
To be eligible for this trial, participants need to be children aged 1 month or older who are having certain types of surgeries at a pediatric hospital. This includes surgeries related to urology, abdominal cancers, and other specific procedures. Parents of these patients can also participate. Throughout the trial, families can expect to contribute to a shared database that helps researchers learn more about the recovery process and improve care for future patients. The trial is currently recruiting participants, and it will continue to refine the care plan based on what they learn.
