ClinConnect Summary
The Appalachian Partnership to Reduce Disparities trial is exploring new ways to help people in rural areas of Appalachia access important health services for HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and hepatitis C (HCV). The study combines two approaches: peer navigation, where individuals help each other find resources, and mobile health (mHealth) tools, which use technology like smartphones to deliver health information. This program is designed to be culturally relevant and bilingual, aiming to increase testing and care for these conditions among diverse groups, especially gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) and transgender women.
If you live in a rural Appalachian county, are at least 18 years old, and were assigned male at birth with sexual experiences with men in the past year, you may be eligible to participate. Participants will be divided into two groups: one will receive the new intervention right away, while the other will wait for a few months. The researchers hope that those in the intervention group will get tested for HIV, STIs, and HCV more often than those in the delayed group. This study is currently recruiting participants, so if you think you might be eligible, consider reaching out for more information!
