ClinConnect Summary

The TCD-REDUCE study is a clinical trial looking at a special ultrasound technique called transcranial Doppler sonography, also known as "sonolysis." This method is being tested to see if it can help reduce the risk of silent strokes during a procedure called MitraClip implantation, which is used to treat a heart condition known as mitral valve insufficiency. The main goal is to ensure that patients have better outcomes during this heart procedure.

To participate in this trial, you need to be between 65 and 74 years old and have mitral regurgitation, a condition where your heart's valve doesn't close properly. You should also be recommended for the MitraClip by a team of heart specialists. However, if you have certain medical conditions, such as a pacemaker, are pregnant, or cannot consent to participate, you may not be eligible. If you join the trial, you can expect to undergo the standard MitraClip procedure while the researchers monitor your brain activity to check for any strokes. This study is currently recruiting participants, and your involvement could help improve treatment for future patients.
