ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called "Using Antibiotics Wisely," is focused on improving how antibiotics are used in Canadian Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). The study aims to develop better strategies for using antibiotics, especially to help prevent the spread of infections caused by multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs) in very-low-birth-weight infants. These infants are particularly vulnerable, and using antibiotics incorrectly or too often can lead to serious health problems. By understanding antibiotic use patterns and improving practices, the goal is to keep these babies safer and healthier.
To be eligible for this study, infants must be very-low-birth-weight and admitted to one of the participating NICUs in Canada. Unfortunately, infants with major congenital anomalies (serious birth defects) cannot participate. If you choose to take part in this study, you will be contributing to important research that could lead to better care for newborns in the future. The trial is currently recruiting participants, and anyone interested in learning more should reach out to their healthcare provider for additional information.
