Elderly Breast Cancer Wide Local Excision Survival

ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is investigating the differences between two types of surgical procedures for elderly women with breast cancer: wide local excision (WLE), which removes the tumor and a small margin of surrounding tissue, and other surgical options. The aim is to understand how these different surgeries affect survival outcomes for older patients, especially since many elderly women are not included in traditional studies, making it hard to know the best treatment for them. Researchers want to see if those who undergo WLE fare differently compared to those who receive other surgical treatments, helping to ensure that older patients receive the most appropriate care.

To participate in this study, women must have a clinical diagnosis of breast cancer and have received surgical treatment at the participating hospital. They also need to agree to long-term follow-up and have no evidence of cancer spread to other parts of the body. If you or a loved one is considering joining this trial, you can expect to be monitored closely to see how the surgery impacts health outcomes over time. This study is important because it aims to provide clearer guidance for treating breast cancer in elderly patients, ensuring they receive the right level of care tailored to their needs.
