ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is focused on understanding the characteristics of abdominal fluid in patients with a serious condition known as perforated diverticulitis, which can lead to life-threatening inflammation in the abdomen. The study aims to explore changes in tissue and bacteria in the gut that occur due to this condition. Researchers hope to learn more about why diverticulitis develops and how it can lead to perforation, which is when the intestinal wall breaks down.
If you are considering participating in this trial, you might be eligible if you have symptoms of perforated diverticulitis and need emergency surgery, or if you have acute diverticulitis but are not immediately undergoing surgery. Patients scheduled for elective surgery due to colorectal cancer can also join. Participants will undergo assessments to help researchers gather important information about their condition. It's essential to note that those who do not have surgery or decide to withdraw from the study will not be able to participate. This research could provide valuable insights that might improve future treatments for patients with diverticulitis.
