ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how the mechanics of the lungs change when patients start using a mechanical ventilator. Mechanical ventilation is a treatment used when patients can't breathe well on their own, and understanding lung mechanics—how the lungs expand and contract—during the first hours of this treatment is crucial. The researchers aim to find a simple, non-invasive method to measure lung function and determine the best ventilator settings to minimize injury to the lungs. This is important because the first few hours after intubation can significantly affect a patient's recovery and reduce the risk of complications.
To participate in this study, patients must be over 18 years old and scheduled for mechanical ventilation in an intensive care unit (ICU) or operating room (OR). However, individuals with severe lung or heart conditions, certain high-risk factors, or those under 18 years old will not be included. Participants can expect to be monitored closely during their time on the ventilator, with the goal of improving how ventilator care is tailored to each patient's specific lung needs. This research aims to enhance our understanding of lung health and improve outcomes for patients requiring ventilator support.
