ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at patients with a spinal condition called thoracolumbar kyphosis, which can cause a forward bending of the spine. The focus of the study is to understand how this spinal condition relates to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition where stomach acid frequently flows back into the esophagus, leading to symptoms like heartburn. The research will include patients who qualify for spinal surgery and those who choose non-surgical treatments, such as wearing a brace. Researchers will use special tests to measure how often and how severely GERD occurs in these patients, as well as how well their esophagus is working before and after treatment.
To be eligible for the trial, participants must be at least 20 years old and have a diagnosed thoracolumbar kyphotic deformity due to specific causes like osteoporosis or spinal fractures. Those with a history of abdominal surgery involving the esophagus or stomach will not be included. Participants can expect to answer questionnaires about their GERD symptoms and undergo tests to measure reflux and esophageal function. This study aims to provide valuable insights into how spinal health may affect digestive health, which could ultimately improve treatment options for these patients.
