ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how different types of enteral feeding, which is a way to provide nutrition directly into the stomach or intestines, affect how well children in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) tolerate their feedings and their overall nutritional status. Enteral feeding is often preferred over other methods because it's generally safer, more effective, and less costly. The trial specifically compares two types of feeding formulas: polymeric and oligomeric. Early research in adults suggests that oligomeric formulas may be better tolerated, which means children might be able to handle them without as many side effects.
To participate in this trial, children need to be patients in the PICU who require nutritional support through enteral feeding. However, some children won't be eligible if they have certain conditions, like severe instability in their blood circulation, recent surgery on the stomach or intestines, or other serious gastrointestinal issues. If enrolled, participants will be closely monitored to see how well they respond to the different feeding formulas, helping researchers identify the best options for improving nutrition in critically ill children.
