ClinConnect Summary
The Mediterranean Lifestyle in Pediatric Obesity Prevention trial is studying how a healthy lifestyle, focused on the Mediterranean diet and regular physical activity, can help reduce the risk of obesity in young children. This trial involves children aged 3 to 6 years who are at risk of becoming obese, meaning they have a parent with a higher body weight. The researchers aim to see if teaching these families about healthy eating and providing activities can lower obesity rates over 5 to 10 years compared to a group that only receives standard care.
To participate, children must be between 3 and 6 years old, have a parent with a higher body weight (BMI of 25 or more), and be of normal or slightly overweight according to specific guidelines. If selected, children in the trial will receive education about healthy eating, including meals with extra-virgin olive oil and fish, and will have fun activity sessions each week. Researchers will check in on how well families stick to this program. This study is important because it could lead to lasting changes in how families approach health and nutrition, helping to prevent obesity in children before it starts.
