ClinConnect Summary

The Next Generation Longitudinal Birth Cohort Diabetes Study is a research project aimed at understanding how different factors during pregnancy and after birth can affect a child's risk of becoming overweight or developing type 2 diabetes at a young age. The study will look at things like the mother's health, genetics, and the child's environment after birth.

If you are a pregnant woman living in Manitoba and identify as Indigenous (such as Cree, Oji-Cree, Métis, or Anishinaabe), you may be eligible to participate in this study, whether you have type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes (diabetes that develops during pregnancy), or no diabetes at all. Participants will be asked to provide information about their health and lifestyle, and the study will follow mothers and their children to gather important data. This research could help us learn more about preventing obesity and diabetes in children, making it a valuable opportunity for families.
