ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how a medication called dexmedetomidine affects eye pressure during spine surgeries. The goal is to see if using this drug while patients are under general anesthesia (deep sleep) can help manage intraocular pressure, which is important for eye health. The trial is currently looking for participants, specifically adults aged 65 and older who are scheduled for spine surgery while lying face down.
To be eligible for the study, patients must be having a planned spine surgery in this position and be able to give their consent to participate. However, individuals with certain conditions, such as previous eye surgeries, pre-existing eye diseases like glaucoma, or unstable heart conditions, cannot take part in the trial. If chosen to participate, patients can expect to receive the medication during their surgery, and their eye pressure will be monitored as part of the study. This research could provide valuable information about managing eye pressure during surgical procedures.
