ClinConnect Summary
The STROKAO clinical trial is studying how the blood vessels in the eye, specifically the retina, change in patients who have recently had a stroke. By using a special imaging technique called adaptive optics (AO), researchers aim to see details in the eye that other methods can't capture. This could help them understand more about stroke and its effects on the brain. The trial looks at measurements of the retinal blood vessels during the first days after a stroke and again after three months to see how they may change over time.
To be eligible for this study, participants must be adults aged 65 to 74 who have been hospitalized with a confirmed stroke within the last 10 days. There are also control participants who have no history of stroke but are otherwise similar in age and health. Pregnant women and those who are unable to undergo the eye examination won't be included. If you participate, you can expect to have non-invasive eye imaging done, which will help researchers gather important information about the relationship between eye health and stroke recovery. This study could lead to better ways to monitor and treat patients with stroke in the future.
