ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is focused on understanding how certain areas of the brain contribute to cognitive problems in people with Parkinson's disease. Researchers want to learn more about the brain's activity during deep brain stimulation surgery, which is a treatment for Parkinson's. By observing the brain's activity in these specific areas, called corticostriatal structures, they hope to gain insights into the non-motor symptoms, like memory and thinking difficulties, that some patients experience.
To participate in this study, individuals must be scheduled for deep brain stimulation surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and be at least 40 years old with a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. Participants will need to be able to follow instructions during the surgery. If eligible, they can expect to have their brain activity recorded during the procedure, which will help researchers understand more about cognitive impairment in Parkinson's. This study is currently recruiting participants, and it aims to improve knowledge about how Parkinson's affects thinking and memory.
