ClinConnect Summary
The Light Timing Study is researching how exposure to bright light at different times of the day can help shift the body’s internal clock, also known as circadian rhythms, in older teenagers. During late adolescence, many young people experience issues like feeling sleepy during the day, struggling in school, and even facing mental health challenges. This study aims to find out if having bright light in the afternoon, along with morning light, can help these teens sleep better and feel more alert. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of four groups, where they will either receive bright light in the morning, in the afternoon, both, or a dim light as a control.
To participate in this study, individuals must be between the ages of 18 and 20 and live in or near Chicago, IL. Those who take part will spend two weeks in a controlled environment where their sleep patterns will be carefully monitored, and they’ll receive light exposure tailored to their usual sleep schedule. This study could provide new insights into how light exposure can improve sleep and overall well-being in adolescents. If you or someone you know fits the eligibility criteria and is interested, it could be a valuable opportunity to contribute to this important research.
