ClinConnect Summary
The Adolescents Bariatric Surgery Cohort Survey is a clinical trial that aims to understand how bariatric surgery can help teenagers who are severely overweight, also known as obesity. This type of surgery can be a very effective way to lose weight and improve related health issues, but we still need to learn more about its safety and effectiveness for younger patients. The study is currently recruiting participants who are between 14 and 20 years old and are considering this surgery because their weight is significantly affecting their health.
To qualify for the trial, candidates must have a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher, or a BMI of at least 35 along with serious health problems like high blood pressure or diabetes. Before joining, participants must also have completed at least six months of a weight management program and have the consent of themselves or their family. Those with certain mental health issues or specific medical concerns related to anesthesia may not be eligible. If you or someone you know meets these criteria and is interested, participating in this trial could provide valuable insights into the benefits and risks of bariatric surgery for adolescents.
