ClinConnect Summary
The OxyGap trial is studying how different types of pulse oximeters measure oxygen levels in patients receiving oxygen therapy in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Pulse oximeters are devices that help monitor how much oxygen is in the blood, which is crucial for patients with respiratory issues. This study will compare the readings from various oximeters (Nonin, Masimo, Philips, and Nellcor) to a more precise measurement taken from an arterial blood sample. The goal is to understand how accurate these oximeters are and to improve guidelines for managing oxygen levels in patients.
To participate in this trial, individuals need to be at least 18 years old and already admitted to the ICU with an artery catheter in place. However, some patients may not be eligible if they have issues like poor signal from the oximeter, certain nail conditions, or if they are in isolation due to infections. Participants can expect to have their oxygen levels monitored using different devices while the researchers collect important data to help refine oxygen therapy practices for future patients.
