ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how well a simple questionnaire called T-ACE can identify pregnant women who drink alcohol at levels that might be risky for their baby. Although doctors have known for a long time that drinking during pregnancy can be harmful, it’s still a challenge to spot who might need extra support. The T-ACE questionnaire asks about alcohol use and aims to catch high-risk drinking early. To check if the questionnaire works well, the study compares women’s answers with a special blood test that can detect recent alcohol use more accurately.

Women who are 18 years or older, pregnant, and receiving prenatal care at one of three hospitals in northern France can take part. Participants will fill out the T-ACE questionnaire during their prenatal visit and, if they agree, will have one blood test to measure a substance called phosphatidylethanol, which shows if they have been drinking alcohol in the past three weeks. The study will use this blood test as a “gold standard” to see if the questionnaire is correctly identifying women who drink at risky levels. This research could help doctors better support pregnant women by using a quick and simple tool during routine check-ups.
