ClinConnect Summary
The GAP clinical trial is exploring how bone fractures occur in patients with osteoporosis, a condition that weakens bones and makes them more fragile. With the aging population, the number of bone fractures is expected to rise, and understanding what happens at the microscopic level of the bone can help improve prevention and treatment. Researchers are using computer models to study the effects of tiny gaps and structures in bones, but these models need to be tested on actual human bones to ensure they work correctly. By validating these models, the goal is to develop new ways to assess bone health and identify individuals at risk for fractures.
To participate in this trial, you need to be at least 18 years old and scheduled for a primary hip replacement surgery. You should also have a routine CT scan before the surgery. Unfortunately, if you have other bone diseases or certain medical devices in your hip, you may not be eligible to join. If you do participate, you'll be contributing to important research that could lead to better ways to diagnose and prevent fractures in people with osteoporosis. The trial is currently recruiting participants, and all genders are welcome to apply.
