ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is exploring the effectiveness of liver transplantation for patients with a type of cancer called gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) that have spread to the liver and cannot be surgically removed. The goal is to see if a liver transplant can help improve survival and quality of life for these patients. The trial is not yet recruiting participants, but it aims to include adults aged 65 to 74 who have specific characteristics, such as a confirmed GIST diagnosis and liver metastases that are not treatable by surgery.

To be eligible for this trial, participants need to have a certain type of mutation that responds to a medication called imatinib and should not have any other cancer spread outside the liver. Additionally, there should be at least two years between the diagnosis of the original tumor and the diagnosis of the liver metastases. If someone qualifies and chooses to participate, they can expect to undergo a thorough evaluation to determine their health and suitability for a liver transplant. This trial represents a potential new treatment option for patients facing a challenging situation with their cancer.
