ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how often patients develop hypothyroidism, which is an underactive thyroid, after undergoing a procedure called TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation). This procedure is often performed on older adults who have a heart condition called aortic stenosis, where the aortic valve narrows and makes it hard for the heart to pump blood. The study aims to understand which factors might increase the risk of developing hypothyroidism after the procedure, such as pre-existing thyroid issues, certain medications, or food additives.
To participate in the trial, patients need to be at least 70 years old and scheduled for a TAVI procedure. They must also provide written consent to join the study. Importantly, patients who already have known thyroid problems or are taking specific medications that affect the thyroid will not be eligible. Participants will be monitored for changes in their thyroid function after the procedure, and the researchers will also look at how these changes might affect their overall health assessments. If you or a loved one are considering TAVI and meet the criteria, this trial could provide valuable information about thyroid health post-procedure.
