ClinConnect Summary
The "Hemp Seed Awareness" trial is studying the potential allergic reactions to hemp seeds, which are derived from the industrial hemp plant. While hemp seeds are generally considered nutritious and safe, there have been reports of severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis (a serious allergic reaction), in some individuals. The researchers want to understand how people may become allergic to hemp seeds, especially if they have been exposed to cannabis in other ways, such as through smoking or working with the plant.
This study is currently looking for adult participants aged 65 to 74 who have been referred to the Allergology Unit at the Hospital of Angers for allergy testing. To join, participants must be able to provide informed consent and be part of a social security scheme. However, pregnant women, people with certain mental health issues, and those who can't understand French or have specific skin conditions are not eligible. Participants can expect to undergo prick tests to check for allergic reactions to hemp seeds. This research is important as it could help improve understanding and management of allergies related to hemp products.
